There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood
Drama
5 starts out of 5

PLOT
The film, There Will Be Blood is based on the novel, Oil! It stars Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano, playing two characters struggling against each other over the course of years. After a deal is struck between the two for Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis) to drill for oil on Paul Sunday's (Paul Dano) large land a power struggle begins between the two. The film deals with the issues of money, family, and greed. As Daniel's oil drilling goes very well, Paul who becomes a faith healer, demands more and more money, ultimately ending in tragedy.

ACTING
The acting in this film is so fantastic that just about anyone could appreciate the level of commitment the actors had during the filming. They are so realistic, it's almost a little scary to think that anyone like that could be a real person. The only stereotype in the movie is about the faith healer, Paul Sunday. He is portrayed as a stereotypical overtly religious character. You see each character in the movie go through many personal and physical changes, and you almost feel as if you are growing up with them. Actors in this film did such a good job, it didn't even feel like you were watching a film, it just felt that you were watching their lives and feeling every emotion that they had. Daniel Day Lewis well deserved his Oscar in 2008 for best performance by an actor in a leading role.

SPECIAL EFFECTS, CINEMATOGRAPHY, MUSIC SCORE, CAMERA SHOTS, EDITING, ETC.
The cinematography and editing was done in this film in a very dark way to show all of the tension and rising emotions. Many shots were done close up to really see all of the actor's faces. Special effects in this film were minimal to none, only using a few for oil coming out of the ground. In my opinion, the music stood out for me. All music was composed and played by the lead guitarist of the band RadioHead. The music complemented every scene of the movie.

FINAL COMMENTS
This movie is for anyone who is interested in psychology. Also for anyone who likes to watch movies that make you think. You may not want to watch the movie if you are sensitive to certain topics like religion. A strength and weakness for the movie is how it makes you think long after you watch it and how it leaves you so shocked after almost every scene.
